Cariboo Holiday

Every year the Cretelli family takes a week or two long camping holiday together. It has changed many times over the past few years from lounging on the beach in the Shuswap to roughing it in provincial parks. This year we decided to go up to Williams Lake to visit Ryan and his family. We also planned to head farther north up to Quesnel to check out that part of our province. Heather, Kaes and I loaded up my dad's car, while Dad, Shirley, Maxwell and Rosco piled into the motorhome and off we went. We spent the first day just playing with the kids and planning what we were going to do on our holiday. Our second day we took a trip out to Farwell Canyon to see the hoodoos. We did a loop route on some back roads and saw some very interesting country with some spectacular views. We had quite an adventure that day as our trip took nearly twice as long as we thought it would and we also nearly ran out of gas! Unfortunately, I only got one picture before the battery on my camera had to be re-charged.

Our campground in Quesnel was on Dragon lake. A beautfiul spot, but not the best for swimming, Turns out it is a great fishing lake though. We love our vanagon, but it was fun to stay in the tent again. Our campfire got rained out a couple of nights, but overall the weather was pretty good.

More hoodoos in Pinnacles Provincial Park near Quesnel, but this time only a 10 minute drive and 10 minute hike away!!

On our second last day in Quesnel we took a day trip to Barkerville. I only really remember learning about Barkerville in elementary school, and yep, its still there. We sampled candy at the old-fashioned candy store, toured most of the buildings, learned a little about mining, took a stagecoach ride and had a rootbeer in the saloon. I think an enjoyable day was had by all.

Back to Williams Lake for the night, and then the big drive home the next day. We came home over Hwy24 through Little Fort. If you have the chance, take that route as it is a nice drive. This is my kick off to summer trip, so expect a lot more!!
